2016 Events

What a fantastic and busy year it has been so far for our competitions and events at SFE.

We are still holding our hugely popular monthly clinics with Jo Graham, Matt Burnett and Tracey Newman, we have also welcomed another new talented trainer in Ryan Todd. And if that wasn’t enough the legendary Stephen Clarke has done two clinics for us this year and is due to complete his third clinic at the end of November for us. Check out dates and booking details on our calendar page.

Our Dressage Series has been a tremendous success this year, we have brought our competitors brilliant competition and fabulous incentive with help from our wonderful sponsors who donated prizes for all our class winners. So huge thanks to Hird and Partners Vets, Katie Amos Photography, Jude Furniss Massage, Minerva Beauty and Lisa Emmerson Equine Physiotherapy. Our Spring and Summer finales in June and October presented our winners and showed off their continued progression and success. It has been great to see so many new faces this year. I would also like to thank all our judges and writers who take time out to ensure our events are fun, friendly and very encouraging.

We will be running a Christmas Event of dressage and jumping along with some fun classes!

This year has also seen our Combined Training Competitions develop into a very busy event, these comps have been very popular and enjoyable for all levels. We will be running these as part of a series next year! So watch this space for further details.

I would like to take a moment to personally thank all our loyal and returning competitors, without you our events would not run and make SFE so enjoyable. Lets bring even more fun in 2017!

Welcome Millie Farrington!

In early September we welcomed Millie Farrington to our team of staff. Millie is 16 and is a school leaver who has joined us to gain  an apprenticeship in Horse Care and Management.

Millie is going to be an asset to SFE and bring another dimension to what we offer at Shaw Farm, Millie is a talented rider and a natural with the horses. Esther has trained Millie for the last 2 years so the transition to work colleague was an easy one.

Millie’s roll at SFE will be to shadow Esther and Lorraine and learn from experience and the knowledge of her peers. Millie will help in the training of Team SFE Dressage horses, she will also help keep the liveries in top shape and learn every aspect of the workings of a busy livery and training yard.

We wish Millie all the success with us and we are confident in her ability to carve a successful career in the equine world.

Rolex

Regionals and training

SFE has seen one of its busiest years, we seem to have a yard full of fabulously talented horses that we are training, competing and taking care of.

Rolex and Badger have had a busy summer of training at home with the watchful eye of Jo Graham and Matt Burnett keeping us in check while CDJ is busy prepping for the Olympics.

Rolex is getting more confident and secure in his work at medium with his half passes becoming much more established. Badger has been improving on his submission and adjustability and is a real pleasure to own and train.

August took Rolex and I to the Elementary Silver Summer Regionals, the test felt easy for Rolex (which is a rarity) he was a joy to compete and I came away feeling very confident and happy with our ride. To then come 3rd at a regional was a huge achievement for us. Rolex has been an immensely tricky horse to train and develop and I finally felt like something had clicked! I was so pleased with our result, slightly disappointed to be so close to the golden ticket! But hey you can not have it all!!

Badger didn’t compete at the summers, but he is well on his way with his winter qualification at Prelim and Novice. We are now gently upping his work regime and he is learning his lateral work and collection work with ease.

Rolex is all qualified for the Winters at both Elementary and Medium which is fantastic for us as a personal accomplishment!

Just those pesky changes to establish then we can move on up again!

We were lucky enough to restart our monthly training with the golden girl of dressage this September, Miss DuJardin! And what a great experience that was, she was very happy with our progress but as usual set the bar higher and gave us lots to work on until our next trip!

So we are now all set for a winter of training all 4 boys, along with assisting in the training of many other talented dressage horses that are housed at SFE!

Ivan

KWPN Beauties!

Earlier this year we decided to begin our search for a talented 3 year old to join the SFE team to develop for dressage with the prospect of selling before 2017 young horse classes.

We scoured the internet and started our hunt only to be quite underwhelmed at the quality available at a realistic price, we then struck on a lovely gelding we wanted, unfortunately he miserably failed the vet costing us a lot of money and disappointment.

So, our search took us to Holland!! And what a fabulous and exhilarating experience it was. Over the two days there we were presented with nearly 20 horses, all of which matched our spec, all with super breeding, movement and temperaments! We were very excited!! The yards we visited were fantastic, all very professional, the standard at which the horses were turned out was nothing less than world class and certainly showed us brits how things should be done! If nothing else, we learnt a vast amount from the trip!

We are excited to announce the purchase of not one but two stunning 3 year olds, both very different stamps but in their own right both tremendous equines!

Ivan – 3 year old – Franziscus x Jazz

Impact – 3 year old – Don Tango x Bentley

Both horses are very lightly backed and passed rigorous 5 stage vetting’s with full x-rays.

We are very excited about these prospects, please watch this space for further details!!

Rolex and Badger

We have had a good few months of competition preparation and training at SFE.

Both boys are coming along tremendously well, we have had a couple of trips down south to train with Charlotte Dujardin which has been incredible as always.

Rolex has been successful with his competitions of late, he had two plus 72% winning both classes just recently and made his debut in the Horse and Hound which was a proud moment. We only have 2 points left to achieve in order to receive our summer qualification at Elementary level. Rolex SFE will then be making the move up to Medium this summer.

Badger who we have registered as Hennessey SFE will be out competing at Prelim and Novice this year and may contend the young horse classes depending on his way of going. We do not want to rush him as he is showing superb scope for the future.

I will keep you posted on our progress.

Stephen Clarke Returned!

Well what an amazing day we all had when the god of Dressage returned to SFE.

Stephen was fabulous company as always and supplied 8 lucky riders with a huge amount of knowledge and techniques to further their riding and improve their scores. I for one could not stop listening to his wisdom!!

Stephens teaching style is very encouraging and welcoming, we had a wide range of levels and not once did he make anyone feel inadequate or uncomfortable.

The buzz around the yard that day was fantastic, all my amazing liveries were very friendly to our visiting clients and the whole place felt warm and friendly.

We are excited for Stephen to return again. Watch this space!

BHS Approvals Success

We had our annual BHS inspection back in March, we are never told when the inspector will be visiting us, it is usually around May, so to see her arrive in March unexpected was a little surprising. And to top it off Esther wasn’t at the yard on that day. However this did not matter in the slightest as you cannot prepare for such things and you can only be examined on your day to day running’s of the yard. Our staff as always do an amazing job and our inspection day showed this. Lorraine and Jude continued with their hard work while Karen checked every aspect of the yard.

We are extremely pleased and proud to announce we were awarded the highest grading in every single category. Karen adding that ‘SFE is one of the best livery yards in the country’ and so much so SFE would be one of the few she would happily keep her horse. This is a huge achievement for us and came as a lovely and humbling surprise.

We only care for the horses in such way that Esther would look after her own. SFE will continue to run at the highest of standards and will always endeavour to advance our facilities and care to constantly improve what we do.

Esther would like to thank her loyal customers and hard working staff for this achievement.
